As you'll see from some of my pictures, I'm in constant need for stock photos. Deviantart is a good place to find stock photos in addition to inertia.hu and a few other good places.

Well. Did you know that 1/4 of all stock photos here at Deviantart are pictures with a height of less than 600 pixles? That's 9 cm high if printed in a newspaper or 5cm high if printed in a magazine. 1/8 of the pics are even less than 300 pixles. That's not a lot when you want to make a great picture that should cover up at least half an A4 page in a glossy mag or half a tabloid newspaper page.

Some of them can still be used if the picture is of good quality or the object (say, a face) covers the entire picture, but a lot of them are taken with a bad webcam that is only good for letting people get a small clue about the owner's appearance.
Don't get me wrong, it's nice to come across webcampics of girls that like to show off their hot bodies, but it's not really that useful. Unless, of course, it was for a picture of young girls who like to show off their hot bodies via their webcams.

All artists have different needs. The pictures that I appreciate most for my pictures are pictures of:

People: No artsy cropping, or ear flip closeup, but a full body or full face or something that can easily be cut out.
Faces with grimaces are very valuable for me, as I want my pictures to be funny. To use a screaming face (in horror or anger) will almost always be fucking useful. Surprise and shock and very visual sadness are also good. Lastly, insanely happy faces can also be amusing. I invite everyone to take another photo session in front of the mirror and make faces of all sorts of feelings. They will most likely be used by someone. Remember that your face is unique, but usually not your hand or eyeball.
Jumping and moving people can very often make the picture come alive. Waving arms and feet are great.

Then there's of course all those pictures of everything but people, but I'll leave that for some other time.

I am deeply grateful to all the people here that take a lot of time and effort in posting great stock photos. I'd advise you all to make your username a part of the file's name, because it makes it a lot easier for us users to credit you.
